AT HEATHROW AND GATWICK BMI - BRITISH MIDLAND AIRWAYS... The airline dates back to the formation of DERBY AVIAITION LIMITED on the 16 February 1949. In 1964 they boguht MERCURY AIRLINES and changed name to BRITISH MIDLAND AIRWAYS. In 1982 BMA formed MANX AIRLINES and in 1983 BMA purchased 75% of LOGANAIR. In 2000 the name was changed to BMI BRITISH MIDLAND and it joined the Star Alliance. In January 2007 BMI bought BRITISH MEDITERRANEAN AIRWAYS. In October 2008 BMI was bought by LUFTHANSA. CROSSAIR...... Crossair was a regional airline based in Basel, Switzerland. It became Swiss International Air Lines after taking over most of the assets of Swissair following that airline's bankruptcy in 2002. MAERSK.... MAERSK AIR..... Maersk Air was a Danish low-fare airline, based in Copenhagen, which was part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. It operated from 1969 to 2005, when it was bought by Icelandic investment group Fons Eignarhaldsfélag and subsequently merged with their other Danish acquisition the same year, Sterling European Airlines. The new company changed name to Sterling Airlines. AIR EXEL..... The airline was established on 26 April 1991 and started operations on 1 May 1991 working within the framework of a co-operative association with KLM, operating as KLM exel.
